This is our fourth year since Flaming Phoenix has risen out of the ashes. Over the course of the years, we've been nominated or won the Motivate Award, the Design Award, the Control Award, the Connect Award and the Inspire Award.
We love to participate and share our love for STEM with our surrounding community and spread the joy of FIRST.
Our Team Members
“Some people claim I’m crazy... but I prefer the word ‘spirited.’”
Super fly and never shy, Christy is a designer, builder, and cheerleader for the team. As a 7 year veteran, she teaches new team members how to design using the engineering method and be confident in their style and abilities.
She is currently a junior at UHS.
Programmer Extraordinaire! This year marks Austin’s 7th year as a part of FIRST, and as the team’s main programmer, he has taken on the task of teaching the younger team members how to program so that the team will be able to remain after he graduates. Currently, he is a junior at Unionville High School.
As the head of the sponsorship committee and manager of the engineering notebook, Kaelyn helps to keep the non-technical aspects of the team under control. While she loves learning to talk to sponsors and keeping track of entries, Kaelyn also enjoys designing and building parts for the robot and simply being a complete STEM nerd. Currently, she is a junior in high school.
Justin is the captain of the CAD team and design team. This is his 6th year as a part of FIRST and third year on Flaming Phoenix, and as the leader for CAD, he plans to work with newer members to teach them the art of 3D design and printing. Justin is a sophomore at UHS and enjoys photography and music.
A second year team member, Matthew enjoys building and experimenting with parts, and he is a crucial part of the build and design team. Outside of robotics, Matthew participates in BSA, plays golf and drums, and teaches Tang Soo Doo karate. He is 8th grade at Patton Middle School.
The alleged team comedian, Matt is always ready with a quick joke, witty comeback, or sarcastic comment. Chronically underappreciated, Matt struggles to find appreciation for his comedy. He is a 2nd year team member and a part of the build team. One day, Matt hopes to have a job in engineering or comp sci, and also to find happiness. Away from robotics, Matt is also a member of his school’s choir.
Rachel is a new member of Flaming Phoenix this year, and she’s excited to see her design ideas come to life and to learn much more about engineering, CAD, and building. She hopes she can bring some extra organization and some new ideas to the team. Besides robotics, Rachel loves to sing and write.
Ansh is a new member of Flaming Phoenix this year. He is interested in building, and is looking forward to learning more about CAD, and all the other aspects of robotics. Ansh also does Speech and Debate. He plays piano and violin. Ansh is looking forward to seeing how all the different aspects of the robot contribute to the final product
A first year member, Brandon is interested in programming but is always ready to help other team members. Brandon also participates in other activities such as Boy Scouts and Speech and Debate. He loves technology and wishes to get a job in that field in the future.
